They love to say, &#8220;We&#8217;ve always done it this way.&#8221; I try to fight that. That&#8217;s why I have a clock on my wall that runs counter-clockwise.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8212;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoughtco.com\/grace-hopper-quotes-3530092\">Grace Hopper<\/a><\/p>\n<p>American computer scientist and US Navy rear admiral <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grace_Hopper\">Grace Hopper<\/a> was born this week in 1906. She was the inventor of the computer language COBOL. The first language to use actual words in it&#8217;s programming rather than numbers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9594\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9594\" style=\"width: 300px\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/authors\/grace-paley-quotes\"><strong>Grace Paley<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Born this week in 1922, Grace Paley was an author, poet, teacher and political activist. &#8220;in 1969 she came to national prominence as an activist when she accompanied a peace mission to\u00a0<a title=\"Hanoi\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hanoi\">Hanoi<\/a>\u00a0to negotiate the release of\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prisoners_of_war\">prisoners of war<\/a>.&#8221;<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<figure href=\"https:\/\/cosmosmagazine.com\/palaeontology\/human-sized-penguins-once-stalked-new-zealand\"><strong>\u201cSome 60 million years ago, a penguin as tall as Kanye West walked the shores of New Zealand.\u201d<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was this week in 2017 that the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41467-017-01959-6\"><em>Nature Communications<\/em><\/a> published the discovery of\u00a0 <em>Kumimanu biceae,\u00a0<\/em>a human size penguin that could rival Clark College&#8217;s mascot, Oswald, in size.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9601\"
