Are you excited about zines? Do you know what zines are? Would you like to know more? Here is a good place to start if you are interested.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is a Zine?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to <\/span>zinelibraries.info, a zine is unofficially known as \u201ca self-published work with a limited print run…Zines are usually created with the intention not to profit monetarily but to share one\u2019s thoughts, feelings, creativity, experience, and\/or knowledge with others. Zines are part of a DIY (do it yourself) culture which often includes people from marginalized communities or those who don\u2019t have access to more mainstream publishing options.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I get started?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A go-to guide for all things zine-related: “<\/span>Stolen Sharpie Revolution”<\/span>\u00a0by Alex Wrekk<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A brief history of zines in slideshow format: “<\/span>History of Zines”<\/span> presented by Rachael Kaun for Aunty Mabel\u2019s Zine Distro<\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A list of <\/span>reference texts<\/span> for greater context on zine culture is available from Collins Library at University of Puget sound. (All texts listed there are also available via Summit or as eBooks online through Clark Libraries)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An easy guide on how to make a zine out of a single sheet of paper: “<\/span>How to Make this Very Zine”<\/span> by Anne Elizabeth Moore (available in 8 different languages!)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How do I publish a Zine?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As soon as you have a finished zine, you can make copies of it and distribute it to the people in your life! That counts as self-publication. If you are looking for something\u00a0more formal, you can submit your work to your local\u00a0small press publisher, or zine distributors. Lists of both publishers and opportunities to share your work\u00a0are included below!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is a list of <\/span>zine publishers, distros, and libraries<\/span><\/a> in the U.S. created by the Library of Congress.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
