March Into Creativity: Celebrating National Craft Month
History
National Craft Month was started in March of 1994 as an endeavor on the part of the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA). The Craft and Hobby Association has been in existence since the 1940’s though it has gone through many name changes and is today known as the International Art Materials Association (NAMTA). This crafty month-long holiday was created to encourage people to develop their creative side, acquire and share new skills, and discover the benefits that crafting can bring.
Opportunities to craft
During March the library will be holding three zine workshops! Come flex your creativity with our librarians and make your own zine just in time to submit it to the Washington State Zine Contest. Submissions are due March 27th. All zine workshops will be held in Library room 101 from 12:00-1:00pm.
March 5th: Zines 101
Learn the basics of zine making.
March 12th: Zines for Clubs
Use zines to share your unique message for your club or event. (Zines 101 not required)
March 19th: Visioning Zines
You worked hard this quarter. Say goodbye to Winter term and look towards the future. Come to Visioning Zines to de-stress, craft, and vision board your new goals. (Zines 101 not required)
If you have an idea for a zine just drop in to any workshop and craft with us. If you’d like to share your zine with a wider audience talk to a librarian about submitting yours to our zine library or getting editing help before submitting it to the Washington State Zine Contest. For more information about zines please see this handy LibGuide.
