Find and Use Images Responsibly

Borrowed images need to be cited just like any other information such as a quote or statistic. This is true for images included in papers, blog posts, and even slide presentations.

A new tool called Photos For Class will search for an image in the Flickr Creative Commons and will automatically provide a citation at the base of the photo for you. It’s pretty slick.

Images in the Flickr Creative Commons do not have full copyright, meaning that their owners have already given you permission for some use of their image. Be sure that you do follow the Creative Commons license that goes with your image. For example, if you use an image with an Attribution No Derivative CC License, that means you must give credit to the creator and you are not allowed to modify the image.
